The Independent Characters Hobby Progress Challenge 2013

So Carl and Geoff are at it again!

I had so much fun last year with this challenge, which culminated at Adepticon, I really didn't want to miss it.

I've decided to use the challenge as an excuse to update my very first army, the Dark Angels.  I plan on using the Dark Vengeance Boxed set to get me started and eventually strip and repaint my older models to get me up to 1850.

So...for now, I have this.....

And Just a tiny bit of information to off of, :)  I can not wait to dig the old clankers out and see if they still have what it takes.

Sedition Wars update!

I had a few hours to work on the hobby and attempted to get a bit of the sedition wars set up and going.  Managed to get most strain models together from the biohazards extra and the bases from that set started.

Battle For Alabaster Station unboxed

At long last Sedition Wars: Battle for Alabaster Station has made planetfall into my eager hands.  The kickstarter for his incredible project ended on June 30th and had intended to deliver the initial boxed game into our hands in November.  It seems the Strain(a reference to the villainous alien enemy in the game) had their influence and the game was delayed.  I will be honest, I believe it was worth the wait.  Studio McVey has created a high quality product with an engaging story line and beautiful models to boot.  Enough about that, lets see what we get in the box!

Beautiful double sided 14" by 14" game boards

A large baggy of high detail miniatures

A full color 60 page rulebook

Counters and additional game aids

I'm afraid to open this

Or this

So many small pieces

Infection markers in plastic instead of paper

Kickstarter extras
A.I. Drone

Strain phase 1 and 2

Cthorian!

Detailed bases, my favorite item

Dice and patch, cards for kickstarter units

The entire box is high color

Phase 3 perhaps, I really need to get reading.

Well, there you have it folks.  I'm very excited about this game and will be posting soon on the assemble and basing of these models.

Cerberus Legion update

I am always looking for a way for my army to stand out just a bit more.  This week, I've decided to work on the basing of my counts as grey knights army, the cerberus legion.  I really enjoy the blazing orange and bright blue contrast and I wanted to carry that through to their basing as well.  One trick I picked from the chaos wolves army was to use a color to ring the base, as opposed to keeping it back or a more subtle colro such as green or brown.

I did this with the accent color of the army, coral blue..or periwinkle, depending on whom you ask.

I've also added another tool to my frugal hobby supplies, a painting water cup using an old spray paint lid.  Basically, there are two(or more) different sections in the lid which can keep your clean water separate from your dirty water, the water you have cleaned your brush in.  Simple and effective and almost free.

I think the added color makes all the difference.  Of course, I now have no choice but to base these guys...I'm thinking destroyed necrons from my favored opponent.
